David Dongwei Yang

As Senior Vice President of Business Affairs, David Dongwei Yang manages business relationships with key marketing partners and expands the NBA’s business reach in Greater China. He has played an important role in signing major partnership deals with leading companies, including AB InBev, China Mobile, China Southern Airlines, Lenovo, Mengniu Dairy, Proctor & Gamble, and others.

Prior to receiving a promotion to his current position in 2012, Yang worked as a vice president, leading a two-fold increase in the league’s business partnership deals in China. He also spent time as a managing director of NBA Asia, supervising the league’s operations throughout that region outside of China. As a senior director, Yang helped the league’s fund-raising in China in 2007, which led to the founding of NBA China. He launched his NBA career as a director, focusing on special international projects, including a Haier deal negotiation, digital media partner negotiations, and duties as a liaison with local federations.

Yang has also worked for Merrill Lynch Asia, where he consulted leading Chinese companies on corporate finance and led IPO processes for Air China. Before that, he spent time at Enron, leading teams on international energy projects, and at Deloitte and Touche, where he consulted leading energy and financial services companies.

Yang holds an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree and an M.P.A. from the University of Texas, and a bachelor’s degree from Nankai University in China. He lives in Beijing with his wife and two boys.
